Why SVG instead of an icon font?
Icon fonts have downsides: worse accessibility (screen readers sometimes read out nonsense characters), no multi-color support, blurry rendering at certain zoom levels, and the whole font has to load even if only 14 icons are used. SVGs solve the color problem just as elegantly via currentColor, while staying accessible, crisp, and individually loadable.
